B.P.O.E – an acronym for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks or as members lovingly say it stands for the Best People On Earth. // My April with the Elks National Foundation Part I: Chicago Event Photography
Several years ago my husband walked into a local Elks lodge to provide a quote on some exterior building improvements. He didn’t win the contract but he did become a member (and later an Exalted Ruler, or lodge president). It was inspiring to see all of the charitable programs the Elks offer for the community, youth and veterans and it wasn’t very long before I became a member as well. I was honored when the Elks National Foundation asked me to photograph two of their events this year. If you’re wondering where I was the month of April, I was working with the best people on earth 🙂
The first event I photographed was the 2018 Most Valuable Student Scholarship weekend. The top twenty scholarship finalists from across the nation all came to Chicago where they were interviewed and judged based on scholarship, leadership and financial need. These students blew me away with not only their intelligence, but their maturity and insight. If these students are a glimpse into our future, I for one am excited at the prospect.
A big thank you to Elks National for making this such an amazing weekend for some of the most talented visionaries of our future! – Lisa
